Audi launches “On Demand” dealer rental for businesses and consumers

Car rental service Audi On Demand has been launched on both a commercial and consumer basis, making Audi models available on loan periods from one hour to 28 days.

Car rental service Audi On Demand has been launched on both a commercial and consumer basis, making Audi models available on loan periods from one hour to 28 days.

The cars will be available for collection from an Audi centre, or can be delivered to a personal or work address within a 30 minute drive.

The first centre offering the service will be in Oldham in Greater Manchester, to be followed by Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham and London by the end of 2018.

The service will include unlimited mileage, full insurance, roadside assistance, delivery, and collection under is a single fee. The A1 Sportback is the cheapest model available on the scheme, offered at £70 a day and £210 for three days. The Q5 SUV is offered at £140 for one day.

Andrew Doyle, director of Audi UK, said: “Audi on demand is the premium mobility service with a difference. It neatly packages convenience, flexibility and ease of use into every booking and enables our customers to tap into a bespoke experience that is fitting of the Audi brand.

“The traditional model of ownership is consistently evolving and this innovative concept firmly puts Audi UK ahead when it comes to meeting consumer demand and transforming into a digital premium car company.”

Audi On Demand is currently available in the US, China, Singapore, Japan, and Germany.

The Audi product follows on from a similar initiative from sister company Volkswagen Financial Services: VWFS Rent-a-car, also offering for direct-from-dealership rentals, launched in the UK last month. Audi told Motor Finance its financial services division would not be involved in the running of On Demand.

The VW Group is making multiple forays in short-term mobility in an effort to catch up with more established rivals in the field such as Daimler and BMW.

Volkswagen’s car-sharing brand, We Share, will launch in Berlin in the second quarter of next year, and plans to expand abroad from 2020. The car-sharing platform will spearhead the “We” family of products, through which VW intends to target “non-owners”.

We Share will introduce a fleet of 2,000 all-electric vehicles on Berlin’s roads, and plans to subsequently expand to North America and “core European markets”. VW said it is targeting cities with a population of one million and above.
