David Betteley Toyota Financial ServicesDavid Betteley is to retire from his role as
senior vice-president Europe and Africa and managing director of
Toyota Financial Services (UK), the captive announced, in order to
look after his wife as she recovers from a recent illness. Betteley
started his career at Lloyds & Scottish Finance, later Lloyds
Bowmaker, in 1976. In 1988 he moved to International Motors, where
he set up a finance business in partnership with UDT, then moved to
Sweden in 1991 to work as MD of IM’s vehicle import business. After
moving back to the UK, Betteley became MD of GMAC UK in 1996,
before joining Toyota in 1998, where he was leader of the team
which eventually established Toyota’s finance subsidiary in the UK,
a two-year long project. A well-known figure in UK motor finance,
Betteley has also been chairman of the FLA since 2007.

SANTANDER
CONSUMER

Peter Critchley, Santander Consumer UKPeter Critchley has joined Santander Consumer as
its sales director for the north. Critchley has had a long career
in financial services, having joined Lombard North Central in 1985,
and working subsequently for Rolls Royce Finance and Fiat Financial
Services, then for First National. He co-founded Warrington-based
sub-prime specialist Blue Motor Finance in 2006. Following the
winding up of Blue, after its wholesale backers pulled funding,
Critchley secured the position at Santander Consumer, which he
described as something of a “homecoming”. Critchley added: “I’m
thrilled with my role at Santander Consumer, and look forward to
bringing the sales teams even closer together, following the GE
Money acquisition earlier this year.”

RMIF

The Retail Motor Industry
Federation (RMIF) has appointed chairmen in two of its divisions.
Brian Madderson is the new chairman of the Petrol
Retailers Association with effect from November 1, having worked
previously at George Hammond plc as managing director. Meanwhile,
the RMIF has created the role of MOT chairman, “to represent the
interests of RMI members with MOT testing facilities, and negotiate
with Government bodies on their behalf,” the federation said.
John Ball, MD of MOTEST Autocare Centres will be
the inaugural chairman; he will sit on the RMIF’s Independent
Garage Association, and chair the MOT Steering Group.

LOMBARD VEHICLE
MANAGEMENT

Lombard Vehicle Management (LVM)
has created two new senior roles in its strategic accounts team,
which handles its largest customer accounts. Peter
Butler
is the new development director within the team. He
has over 20 years’ experience in the motor sector, and has held
roles in areas ranging from sales and aftersales to marketing and
dealer training. Most recently he was responsible for introducing
business improvement programmes at Toyota and VW, and joins LVM
from the latter manufacturer. Ian Banks takes up
the position of relationship director, joining the lessor from
Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, where he was strategic
relationship manager. He has also worked for Vardy Contract
Motoring, and for Lex, and began his career at Lombard North
Central.

FINANCE TORQUE
LTD

Peter Cottle, Finance TorquePeter
Cottle
, formerly senior director at Bank of Scotland
Dealer Finance, is now managing director of Finance Torque Ltd, a
motor industry consultancy which has established a number of
strategic alliances with players and suppliers to the motor
industry. Cottle has over 30 years’ experience in the motor finance
sector, having worked for Lombard heading their joint ventures with
Jaguar and PSA, and was operations director at Rover Finance. In
1997 he joined Bank of Scotland and held a number of senior
positions, including deputy managing director. He is also a past
chairman of the FLA’s Motor Finance committee.

THINK

Electric carmaker Think has
announced the composition of its new board of directors. The
chairman is Reidar Langmo, a renewable energy
expert, while the other board members are: Ken
Baker,
former program manager for GM Electric Vehicles;
Steinar Fossen, investment director at Norwegian
state venture capital fund Investinor; Charles
Gassenheimer
, chairman and CEO of battery maker Ener1 Inc;
William James, managing general partner at
RockPort Capital Partners, a venture capital firm; and
Ulrich Thum, former president and CEO of Fiat
Group, Switzerland, and former MD of BMW Greater China.

PEUGEOT UK

After a restructuring of its
senior management, Peugeot UK has announced that Andrew
Didlick
has been named director of communications, a
newly-created role. Andy Sutton, who previously
had responsibility for media relations, has been appointed group
commercial and technical training director.

JAAMA

Software firm Jaama has appointed
John Machin as a first-line support analyst. He
previously worked at AT&T as a network support analyst.

TUSKER

Gordon
Calder-Jones
has joined Tusker as business development
manager for the South. He was formerly head of major corporate
sales at Masterlease, and has previously worked for the RAC and
Jessups Vehicle Contracts, among others.
