British Car Auctions (BCA) is reporting 3,198
online sales of used cars between 16 and 21 January, a new weekly
record.

Over £3m was bid by more than 2,000 online
bidders during the week, with 1,200 individuals winning
auctions.

Internet customers bought over a quarter of
all cars sold during the week by BCA which typically saw a fifth of
its sales go to online purchasers in 2011.

2011 was itself a record year for BCA’s online
sales with 120,000 vehicles sold to internet bidders.

The news echoes the recent
specialist Mazda auction held by Manheim where 27 of the 51 bidders
were online
and
CAP’s observation in November
that online independent
purchasers were forcing other, franchised stock-buyers to travel
further to secure vehicles.
