Arrangement extended

Leasing and fleet management company Leasedrive Velo has extended for three years an arrangement with disability charity Scope which began in 2006. The lessor will provide contract hire for new vehicles and on-going management of Scopes fleet, which comprises 225 vehicles, as well as accident management and short-term vehicle rental. Scope senior category manager Graziella Altieri said: “Our decision to renew the contract was based on Leasedrive Velos proactive approach and its dedicated teams responsiveness to our requirements

Used car sales fall, says Experian

Used car sales in the UK fell 7.6% during the first quarter compared to the same months in 2009, according to global information services company Experian. The upper medium segment suffered most, down 12.2%, followed by multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), where sales fell 10.6%.

Glass’s asks LCV buyers to take long view

Vehicle valuation company Glasss has warned LCV buyers to consider at the time of purchase the specification needs that used buyers may have further down the line. Residual values of LCVs suffer at auction particularly when fleet or rental buyers are unclear how to specify the vehicle adequately to meet the used buyers requirements.

Online fleet sales rev up

Online sales of fleet vehicle sales are on the rise, but internet purchasing is still erratic on a day-to-day basis, software specialist epyx has said. The company, whose 1link.co.uk e-commerce platform is used by fleets to order new cars and vans from franchise dealers, has reported orders up 50% for the year to end-June, but still not reaching pre-recession levels. Epyx head of business development Ken Trinder said: “Fleets are certainly buying cars and vans in much higher numbers than during the last couple of years, but are not automatically repeating orders in the same way they would have done before the recession.

Toyota links with EDF to lease electric cars

Toyota and EDF Energy have signed a three-year deal to lease prototype electric cars to companies in London. It will lease 20 Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles to five London companies, while EDF is to set up car battery charging points at workplaces, on the street and elsewhere.

Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 in demand

Fleet demand for the Mazda 3 and ongoing strong Mazda 6 registrations have contributed to the companys corporate sales rising in the first half of 2010. Mazdas net fleet sales totalled 2,977 units in the six months to 30 June, up more than 18% compared to the same period in 2009. Fleet and remarketing director for Mazda Peter Allibon said: “We have experienced a significant growth in our net fleet channels: registrations by contract hire and leasing companies, Mazda Contract Hire, end-user fleets and Mazda Local Business Centres.”
