Hyundai Motor is to speed up the development of its connected car operating system (ccOS) with a view to launching a ‘Hyper-connected Intelligent Car’ in 2020.

The carmaker established an Infotainment Software Development Team in its Nanjing research and development centre, dedicated to producing ccOs technology, which they claim will ensure that connected cars remain adaptable to new innovations.

Part of this is Hyundai Motor’s ‘Car to Life’ mission, which is to make the car central to users’ daily lives.

According to Hyundai, they aim to focus on how vehicles communicate with their internal and external environments, and integrate software and smart home services, as well as fully autonomous driving.

The first ccOS-enabled cars are slated to hit the market in 2020, following stimulation tests, and there are plans for over-the-air (OTA) software updates, to allow system upgrades outside of a service centre.

Hyundai Motor also announced it was working with Cisco to develop connected car network technology, and has opened a Big Data Centre in China in aid of this.

The company said: “This series of advances boost Hyundai Motor’s efforts to lead the connected car market in the fields of designated vehicle networks, cloud and big data technologies with the ultimate aim of enhancing its customers’ lives.”
