Skoda has used the Geneva motor show to
underline its plans for a greater share of the UK market – a move
that will aid the continued growth of Volkswagen Financial
Services.

The unveiling of Skoda’s vision D concept car
at the opening day of the motor show comes alongside news that the
marque will open 14 more UK dealerships in 2011, taking its total
to 139.

The concept car has already attracted several
complimentary comments in the motor press and was launched at the
same time as Skoda’s new logo, which has a simpler, cleaner
look.

Volkswagen is hoping that the rebranded marque
will emulate the success of its Audi subsidiary, which increased
sales by 9.5 percent last year to reach nearly a 5 percent market
share.

Skoda saw a 10.5 percent sales increase in
2010 compared to 2009, but still occupies a market share of just 2
percent, which its German parent is determined to increase in 2011
and beyond.
