The HPI CrushWatch scheme posted a record proportion of correct enquiries in the month of August as £5.19m of vehicles were recovered.

The scheme recorded less enquiries during the month than is typical; 6,046, compared to an average of 6,304 since begun in May 2010. However, the 726 positive identifications of cars with overdue finance, called hits and averaging 632 a month, yielded a record ratio of 12.01%. This was in excess of the 10.44% recorded in July and beat the previous high of 11.87% set in January 2013.

For the first time since March, Vauxhall was the most recovered marque for the month, including 43 Astras.

For the third month running, the most valuable single recovery was a Rolls-Royce Phantom, worth £65,900, although the pair of Phantom Dropheads recovered in June and July 2013 was worth £267,700 combined.

Although the Metropolitan Police Service continued to be the constabulary with the greatest total value of recoveries, £2.46m, in August, West Yorkshire recovered the second-highest value of vehicles for the fourth month in a row, during which it has recovered approximately £1.15m of cars with outstanding finance.

The scheme is run in conjunction with the Finance & Leasing Association and the ACPO Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service.
