In Europe, VW’s home market, sales increased 2.7% to 1.40m, of which 719,500 came from Western Europe, excluding Germany. In its home market, VW sold 483,500 vehicles, up 4.2% year-on-year.
Sales for the first nine months of 2014 were down in the Americas. In South America, sales fell 18.5% year-on-year in the period to 547,700, of which Brazil accounted for 443,200 cars. North American sales also fell, down 6.8% year-on-year for the nine month period, to 482,300.
In the Asia-Pacific region, VWs largest market, sales increased 12.4% year-on-year to 2.47m, for the nine months to October. China made up the vast majority of these sales, with 2.30m registrations.
