The new office of The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders
(SMMT) has been awarded the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’
(RICS) Bronze Ska Certificate for environmental performance.

The office, within a building constructed in the 1970s, was
refurbished to contemporary regulatory standards in conjunction
with building services consultants Chapman Bathurst to ensure
efficient lighting and water usage with a minimum of waste, making
use of low-global-warming-potential insulation and sustainable wood
sources.

The Ska Rating from RICS is measured across 99 different
indicators in seven key areas of energy, materials, pollution,
transport, waste, well-being and water use.

“It is fantastic to see SMMT’s new Westminster office gain
recognition for the environmental policies and practices that the
design team and staff have worked hard to put into effect,” said
Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive.

“In line with industry objectives, we will seek continuously to
improve our in-house environmental performance, taking an active
role in promoting eco awareness and sustainability”.

“We are delighted to be delivering the Ska accreditation on this
challenging but rewarding project,” said Nigel Pavey, Director of
Engineering at Chapman Bathurst.

“To see SMMT lead the way in sustainable building within the
motor industry is commendable”.
