The latest HPI CrushWatch monthly statistics
reveal a substantial 20% rise in the value of vehicles recovered in
May – to almost £3 million.
Though the number of enquiries (5,081) was
lower than the median for the six months since the service began
reporting monthly rather than seasonally, and the number of
vehicles recovered, at 493, was unexceptional, the value of the
vehicles seized rocketed.

The Top-10 recoveries list reveals the reason
for this shift, with no fewer than five vehicles valued at more
than £40,000, whereas this figure has never been higher than three
in the past six months, with the most expensive vehicle recovered
valued at £90,190.
Helping skew the figures upwards last month
was a Ferrari 458 Italia DCT S-A valued at £151,474, followed by a
Land Rover and a Porsche both worth more than £50,000.
Other data was in line with expectations, with
Vauxhall (86) and Ford (79) taking clear first and second places in
the marques-recovered league for the sixth successive month and the
most common model recovered being the Ford Focus (23).
Hertfordshire police recovered vehicles with
the greatest total value last month (£338,650), followed by
Strathclyde (£294,225) and Greater Manchester (£289,000).
