The deal, which Ogilvie would only say was valued at a
six-figure sum, was closed on Feb 1 after three months of
negotiations.

Ogilvie is part of the larger Ogilvie Group, a
family-owned business with interests in construction, housing
development and IT solutions. Its chief executive, Duncan Ogilvie
has majority control of the company.

Ryland is a small operation based in Birmingham with a
fleet of about 1,000 vehicles and some 200 customers. The disposal
allows Rybrook to focus on its luxury brand motor retailing
business.

“We didn’t have much presence in the Birmingham or the
Midlands area so this allows us to get into that market,” said
Gordon
Stephen
, head of Ogilvie Fleet. Ogilvie will see its fleet size
expanding to over 8,000 vehicles after the acquisition.

In an earlier statement, Stephen said the Ryland name
would be “maintained for the foreseeable future as will the
existing team of people in Colehill.” Ryland employs a team of
eight.

Stephen told Motor Finance that Ryland was a
sensible choice as its area of focus was similar to Ogilvie’s, that
is, managing small fleets of 20 to 200 vehicles for small and
medium-sized enterprises.

Ogilvie will continue to be on the lookout for similar
companies to acquire in the future.
“If a company that came along that fits the profile we’re looking
for, we are certainly interested,” Stephen revealed.

For the short-term Ogilvie is aiming to increase its fleet
to 10,000 vehicles over the next 18 to 24 months.
