Once the decision was made to enter the small fleet sector, the
lessor found that moving from a B2B environment to a B2C
marketplace meant a change of culture, a major branding exercise
and much management focus on IT solutions in a variety of
countries.

Denise Canvin, PR and marketing manager at WCG told Motor Finance
that with the European corporate fleet finance sector pretty well
static, LeasePlan saw a huge potential in entering the small fleet
sector. She explained: “The main barrier to entry was the enormous
degree of change necessary, including the implementation of new
workflow systems to support intermediaries such as dealers, brokers
and banks, plus a self-service direct channel.”

Nic Van Meir, director of eBusiness at LeasePlan said that the
challenge for the new system was for it to be web-enabled, covering
the full lending life-cycle from prospecting through to quotation,
application entry and credit scoring, to agreement activation and
customer retention.
Van Meir added that the result was “a massive commercial
undertaking – but it is good to work with a company of
professionals who really understand the intricacies of the leasing
sector as well as being sensitive to the cultural changes necessary
when entering a new marketplace.”

LeasePlan’s small fleet leasing operation in France and Spain has
already been launched and the plan is to have Italy, Belgium and
Portugal on board next year.
