LEASEDRIVE VELO
Sale-and-leaseback for 200 cars
Leasedrive Velo has signed a £2.1m sale-and-leaseback deal with
Palmer & Harvey, the UK’s largest wholesale distributor,
covering 204 company cars.
Leasedrive Velo will, in addition, replace 130 commercial
vehicles on contract hire for Palmer & Harvey over the next six
months, the lessor said.
Commercial director of Leasedrive Velo, Roddy Graham said that
the leasing company’s “transparent approach” along with its online
fleet management system Drive:Manager had been “key deciding
factors” in Palmer & Harvey’s choice, which followed a
competitive tender.
Graham added that a new fleet policy and vehicle management review
including risk management and duty of care concerns is to be drawn
up on Palmer & Harvey’s behalf.
Jim Glover, HR director at Palmer and Harvey commented: “The
sale and leaseback deal allows us to release capital investment
into our core activity. During the competitive tender exercise, we
were impressed with the dedicated account team structure, the
bespoke service delivery and pro-active team approach.”
LOMBARD VEHICLE MANAGEMENT
Lessor secures Jewson LCV
deal
Lombard Vehicle Management has won a contract to provide 600 light
commercial vehicles to building products supplier Jewson and
Saint-Gobain, a supplier of construction, manufacturing and
consumer building materials.
The leases are being run over three to five years, and include
full maintenance. “The LCV fleet requirement includes specialist
vehicles ranging from standard panel vans to dropsides, Lutons with
tail-lifts and glass carriers, delivered in a variety of colours
and liveries to support Jewson, Graham, Solaglas and other
Saint-Gobain businesses,” LVM said.
Lombard has worked with Jewson, a subsidiary company of
Saint-Gobain, for over a decade, and is the current supplier of its
3,000-strong car fleet.
Commenting on the deal, Denis Wellfare, Jewson’s transport
director, said: “One of the key factors in Lombard’s success was
the long-term relationship built over many years of working closely
with the Jewson and Saint-Gobain transport team.”
VAUXHALL COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
Vauxhall wins 523-van lease contract
Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles has won a leasing contract for 523
Movano vans from Home Delivery Network Limited (HDNL).
Before placing its order with Vauxhall, Liverpool-based HDNL,
who has a total fleet of 2,600 vans, had a six-month evaluation
exercise using 58 Vauxhall vans.
“These vehicles have been extremely well received by our depot
managers and drivers,” said Brian Whedon, director of fleet and
facilities management at Home Delivery Network Limited. “The
vehicles are provided on a 52 month lease agreement based on them
meeting key selection criteria as supported by specialists in all
associated fields including our drivers.”
Delivery of the Movano vans is currently underway to the 58 HDNL
depots across the UK from which they will operate. According to
Whedon, service support for the Movano vans will be split equally
between HDNL’s own workshops and Vauxhall’s dealers.
ARVAL
McCormick to get people carriers in four-year
deal
McCormick UK Ltd has handed a four-year contract hire deal for
250 people carriers to leasing company Arval. McCormick, which
sells spices and owns the Schwartz spice and seasoning brand, was
already a customer of Arval’s fuel card.
The people carriers – 220 Vauxhall Zafiras, sourced through
Birmingham-based Lookers Vauxhall, and 30 VW Caddy Maxi Life – will
be used by McCormick’s staff to carry stock and equipment, Arval
said.
The deal also covers accident management, rental, mini lease
facilities, health and safety consultancy support and a fuel
management component.
The units have mostly already been delivered to McCormick staff,
with vehicles handed over at regional meetings and training on fuel
and maintenance cards provided by Arval. The lessor’s sales
director Fiona Hall said: “We have had a successful fuel card
relationship with McCormick for some time and they are also a
contract hire client of ours in France. We are delighted to be able
to build on this relationship in the UK.”
AUTOMOTIVE LEASING
Lessor wins council car fleet deal
Automotive Leasing has won a contract worth £77,000 excluding VAT
to provide leased cars for Northamptonshire County
Council.
The leasing company, a subsidiary brand of LeasePlan which
specialises in public sector deals, won the tender – covered by the
Government Procurement Agreement – on the basis of a
decision-making process weighted 40 per cent on price, 30 per cent
on “relevant experience and reputation, 20 per cent on
documentation and 10 per cent on financial and legal
status.
The leasing facility was managed by Sector Treasury
Service on behalf of Northamptonshire council, according to the
contract award notice.

Sovereign van delivery
Sovereign Office Equipment has taken delivery of seven new vans
on three-year, fully maintained contract hire agreements, with
Network Leasing providing the finance.
The vehicles – six new Citroën Relay vans and a Citroën Berlingo
First 1.6 HDi van – were supplied by Citroën Birmingham, and are
expected to cover around 20,000 miles annually.
PUBLIC SECTOR
Framework agreement for fleet deals
Lloyds TSB Autolease, ALD Automotive, Alliance & Leicester
plc, Automotive Leasing, Masterlease, Newtown Vehicle Rentals,
Inchcape Fleet Solutions, Piagio UK and Motorcycle Management Ltd
have all signed a fleet leasing framework agreement with
Gloucestershire Wheels Purchasing (GWP), giving the leasing and
contract hire companies the right to bid for fleet procurement
deals.
The framework agreement will run for four years, with GWP
issuing tenders for fleet deals on behalf of a number of public
sector organisations in Gloucestershire.
It is estimated that contracts covering around 200-300 vehicles
will be put out to tender by GWP over the four years of the
agreement, although this number “will depend on uptake throughout
the community transport market”, a spokeswoman for GWP said.
