Online vehicle remarketer Autorola has reported petrol cars are becoming increasingly popular in the used market as buyers realise they do not cover enough miles to justify the extra purchase price of diesel models.
Autorola noted petrol-engine models of the Peugeot 107 and 308 and the Toyota Aygo and Yaris are now being preferred to their diesel counterparts, particularly in urban areas.

The company, which recently recruited two new development managers, added the demand was particularly strong in five-door models, as consumers looked to run a petrol vehicle as their main family car.
According to Autorola’s estimates, the average three-to-four-year-old used petrol five-door model was £1,000 cheaper than its diesel equivalent, and that this extra cost would take roughly 52,149 miles to recoup.
Neil Frost, operations director at Autorola, said: "Demand for diesels remains strong but as the recession continues to bite so demand for petrol models is likely to grow further.
"If a household can save money on the family transport budget then they will consider petrol."
