A roundup of the week’s fleet news including European market figures, appointments, ipad apps and the London Fire Brigade.


July fleet stable in five largest European markets

Fleet registrations across the five largest European markets – France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK – were up by an average 0.7%, year-on-year, according to German fleet data provider Dataforce.

While the fleet market dropped by 19.8% in Italy, 11.7% in Spain and by 4.2% in Germany, fleet registrations grew by 0.5% in France and by 13.1% in the UK.

Seat, particularly thanks to registrations of the Exeo model, and Škoda, with the Yeti, Citigo and Rapid, increased market presence in all five markets.

Mazda increased its share of four of the markets and remained unchanged in Italy, putting registrations of the brand up by 39.5%.


Arval renews partnership with double glazing firm

Arval has renewed an agreement to remain as sole fleet service provider for double glazed windows and doors producer Safestyle UK.

Arval will replace all 165 of Safestyle’s current fleet vehicles, as well as adding another 40 vehicles, and will also provide maintenance.

Steve Lambert, Safestyle’s fleet manager, said: "We selected Arval because of the cost effective solutions that they can deliver and their positive collaborative approach to working with us."


Lex Autolease acquires LFEPA contract

Lex Autolease will provide 210 cars to the London Fire Brigade through the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA).

The tender for the three year contract hire agreement, effective from 1 August, was issued by independent public services consultancy Sector Treasury Services under the Halton Housing Trust framework.

Melanie Holmes, Central Government and Public Sector relationship manager at Lex Autolease, said: "At a time when many public sector organisations are looking to drive efficiencies, a contract hire agreement, supplemented by a short term rental service, can provide a cost effective and flexible solution to fleet requirements."


Three additions to Hyundai fleet sales team

Hyundai has appointed Gareth Thomas, Craig Larson and Denis Watling to its fleet sales team.

Thomas has joined the team in the newly created role of national contract hire manager, leaving Peugeot where he was national fleet sales manager for three years, and having previously spent seven years at Nissan.

Larson has been named as fleet operations manager for Scotland and Northern England, after spending six years as area fleet sales manager with Audi.

Watling has been appointed to the new role of public sector assistant manager, aiding public sector fleet manager Gavin Thompson, having gained experience of the business through his undergraduate placement with Hyundai in 2011 and 2012.


Tusker office move

Contract hire and salary sacrifice management technology provider Tusker has moved to offices in Croxley Green Business Park, Watford.

The company claims a rise in staff numbers in excess of 40% as its business has grown since the start of the year and the offices, north-west of London, are three times the size of Tusker’s previous premises.

Tusker selected the premises believing them to reflect the company’s emphasis on communications technology and its desire to be carbon neutral.


Epyx releases ipad app

Automotive technology provider Epyx has launched an ipad app to enable dealers to buy used stock online through the company’s 1link Disposal Network.

The 1link Disposal Network is used by fleets and leasing companies to remarket stock to used vehicle dealers.

The app is similar to Epyx’s iphone app, used by 40% of the company’s dealer-customer base, but holds ipad exclusive features, such as the ability to compare vehicles on the same screen.


Sharp joins Prestige

David Sharp has joined Prestige Fleet Servicing as network manager of the company’s service centre network team.

Sharp previously worked at Lombard Vehicle Management, and has also worked at Arval, AA Tyreserve, Interleasing and Volvo.

Prestige also appointed Rob Patterson, who has previously worked for Range Rover and VW franchises, as customer service manager.
