Dealer group Vertu Motors has acquired Honda sites in Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham from Springfield Cars Ltd.

The network, which claims to be the ninth largest in the UK, now says it is the largest Honda dealer in the market.

Positive 2012 results for Vertu so far have included £3.8m in revenue from 10 outlets acquired in the 12 months to August, although overall aftersales margins were down.

The purchase has been welcomed both by Vertu and Honda, whose year-to-October new registrations in 2012 were up 6.85% year-on-year to 47,496 according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
