Heating and electric specialist Hewer Facilities Management has
acquired a fleet of 24 Citroën Berlingo vans on contract hire with
Lex Vehicle Leasing this month, with a further 11 to be delivered
in late April on an agreement with Leaseplan subsidiary Automotive
Leasing.

The fleet of 35 vehicles was originally intended as a single
maintenance-inclusive CH deal with Lex, with a showroom value of
around £500,000. However, after a development in negotiations, 11
of the LCVs were cut from the deal and placed with Automotive.

The vehicles were all supplied through local Citroën dealership
Warners of Cheltenham, through which Hewer had hired its previous
fleet of Dispatch vans. Hewer had also had a previous relationship
with Lex, as well as leasing through Lloyds TSB and Vauxhall
Leasing.

According to Hewer’s contract manager Robert Willmott, the
Berlingos were selected after trials evaluating fuel consumption,
running costs and lower emissions, and have already returned a 25
percent fuel efficiency increase on the previous fleet.

Wilmott also said that the Berlingo acquisition had been a sound
environmental move, with Hewer’s annual carbon output likely to
decrease by several tonnes as a result of the deal.

He added that the money saved on the smaller size and greater
efficiency of the vans had allowed a budget for customisation on
the vehicles. As such, the Berlingos have been fitted with steel
bulkheads, polypropylene load compartment lining, non-slip
composite flooring, roof bars, Bluetooth connection facilities and
Wurth Bodyline racking.
