The institute became a Sector Skills Council 11 months ago, taking
over from Automotive Skills.

The new COO will take up the post in January 2009, it is hoped,
while in April 2009 current chief executive Sarah Sillars will
become executive chair of the IMI, to cope with the “increased
demands on chairmen of Sector Skills Councils,” the motor body
said.
