New car registrations across the 27 EU nations, excluding Malta, slipped for the 18th consecutive month in March, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
Registrations for the month totalled 1,307,107, down by 10.2% year-on-year. First-quarter registrations stood at 2,989,486, down by 9.8%.

As was the trend across 2012, the UK new car market remained buoyant while those of other nations faded. The UK saw its new car market hit 394,806 registrations in March, a year-on-year rise of 5.89%, and 605,198 registrations in Q1, up 7.39%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
However, the Italian market was down by 4.9% for the month and 13.0% in Q1; the Spanish market down by 13.9% in March and 11.5% in Q1; the French market by 16.2% in March and 14.6% in Q1; and the German market, Europe’s biggest, by 17.1% in March and 12.9% in Q1.
