Mercedes-Benz Retail Group has promoted Mike Whittington to the role of managing director. Whittington will take up the post as of 1 January 2013.
The role has become available for Whittington, currently sales director, as present managing director Neil Williamson leaves to take the position of vice president of Mercedes-Benz cars in South Africa.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, president and chief executive Mercedes-Benz UK, said he was "delighted" to promote Whittington due to his "wide breadth of experience gained over the years with different brands" including Toyota, Lexus and Peugeot.
Breitschwerdt also commented that the brand’s retail group "accounts for around 25 per cent of business in the UK". He added "I am certain Mike will continue to run our retail operations successfully."
Whittington said he was "committed" to making a positive difference in his new role, stating: "I’m very excited to have the opportunity to lead the team at Mercedes-Benz Retail Group during a period of enormous change."
