German manufacturer Audi has registered record sales in March, both in the UK and globally.
British car sales for the month totalled 28,841 cars, out of a worldwide figure of 170,450.
The figures reflect a year-on-year increase of 13.3% in the UK and 15.4% globally, making March the 51st consecutive month of global sales growth for the manufacturer.
Luca de Meo, member of the board of management for sales at Audi, said: "In March we achieved a double best figure, completing the most successful first quarter in our company history with the strongest sales month ever."
Across its markets in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia and the UK, the manufacturer saw a 7.2% increase in sales to around 88,750 in March, a sign of the internationalisation of Audi’s business "gaining momentum", according to de Meo.
He added: "In the first quarter we achieved substantial growth in all regions around the world and grew more strongly than the market in Europe."
