The cost of a beer at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, also known as Madejski Stadium, could surpass the £10 mark by 2030, according to nationwide research conducted by football shirt retailer UKSoccerShop.
The study calculates the potential price increase based on the average inflation rate of alcoholic drinks over 12 months from December 2023, reported at 9.6% by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The research indicates that a pint of draught beer at Reading Football Club’s home ground may double from its 2022 price of £5 to reach £10.41 by 2030.
This projection implies an annual increase of approximately 68p. Madejski Stadium adopted the name Select Car Leasing Stadium in 2021 through a ten-year partnership with the locally-based car contract hire business, Select Car Leasing, founded in 2004.
The projected beer price increase was calculated using the latest ONS inflation figures for alcohol over 12 months from December 2023, applied to 2022 prices. The research anticipates that by 2030, football fans could be paying over £6 for a pint in northern stadiums and potentially over £10, nearing £15, in London.
