Battery supplier Banner has launched an online battery identification and fitment portal designed to simplify aftermarket replacement and reduce incorrect installations, according to a press release.

The tool allows users to enter a vehicle registration number via a number plate-style search bar, returning a battery match complete with part number, technical specifications, and suggested selling price.

Developed for technicians, factors and workshops, the system also includes detailed installation guidance. Features include battery location information — especially useful for vehicles where the battery is not in the engine bay — and step-by-step replacement instructions to ensure correct fitment.

While high-voltage lithium-ion systems dominate discussion in the EV sector, conventional 12v lead-acid starter batteries continue to play a vital role in vehicle operation. Most EVs are still equipped with a secondary 12v battery system, which powers low-voltage functions such as lighting, infotainment, driver assistance features, and electronic control units. These batteries also support functions including stop-start systems, parking sensors, and regenerative braking interfaces, highlighting their continued relevance in both combustion and electrified vehicles.

Despite their long-standing use, modern lead-acid batteries have become increasingly vehicle-specific. As a result, fitment errors — particularly in vehicles with stop-start technology — are a persistent issue for aftermarket suppliers and workshops.

Banner’s platform aims to address this by offering a consistent, searchable database that matches vehicles to suitable batteries based on up-to-date data. The move reflects wider trends in the aftermarket, where increasing electrification and system complexity are driving demand for precision tools that reduce error rates and improve service efficiency.
