Batey started his career as a mechanical engineering apprentice for Vauxhall UK in 1979, and has since held senior management positions in a number of countries, including a spell as chairman and managing director of GM Holden Ltd Operations in Australia and New Zealand before joining Chevrolet in the US in 2010.

In the UK, Chevrolet announced last month it would use GM Financial as its captive finance provider in the UK following the reacquisition of many of Ally Financial’s global operations by GM.
