“Demand for diesel in the used sector has remained strong and, for many used car buyers, diesel will remain the preferred choice of fuel type as it offers great economy and typically lower running costs,” explained Stuart Pearson, chief operating officer of BCA. “Professional buyers at BCA are bidding strongly across the range of vehicles on offer with age, condition, specification and mileage continuing to be the overriding factors that determine price.”
Pearson said there is a complex and evolving picture in the wholesale sector, urging sellers to make use of real-time data to inform remarketing decisions.
“There will continue to be demand for diesel in segments where it makes sense such as SUV and 4×4, and as clean air zones are announced in cities around the UK, we expect to see demand rise for those exempt vehicles with the latest clean diesel technology,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, BCA also reported record levels of online sales in January, with a 23% year-on-year rise across the board in digital trading volumes. In total, BCA sold over 36% of all vehicles during January via online and digital channels.
