Japanese auto manufacturer Mitsubishi saw its sales increase 204% in June, strengthening a year-to-date increase of 19% on 2013 figures.

The figures confirm the continuation of the high performance witnessed by the company in 2013, when it established itself as the UK’s fastest growing car brand.

According to Mitsubishi, the April launch of its plug-in electric hybrid vehicle (PHEV), the Mitsubishi Outlander, contributed to its sales success.

The company added that other models were also performing well, with the Shogun and Outlander both witnessing triple-digit increases at 425% and 110%, respectively.

Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: "So far 2014 has been fantastic."

He pointed to 2013 as "the start of a period of strong growth" for the company, and added: "With significantly increased marketing investment, the recruitment of a lot more dealers and the launch of exciting new models our growth is set to continue for the foreseeable future."
