Of those independent lenders, the consumer retail lending arms of high street banks have contributed six of the top 50, and two of the top 10, with non-bank independents making up five of the top 50 and one of the top 10.

The proposed move of industry regulation from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and Office of Fair Trading to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), including moving regulatory law from the Consumer Credit Act to the Financial Services & Markets Act, means the top 50 list includes the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Business Secretary, the governor of the Bank of England and the head of the FSA / FCA.

Brokers are also well-represented, with six places among the top 50 and one in the top 10.

The full list, the 50 most powerful people in UK car finance, is available in the December issue of Motor Finance magazine.
