The board of directors of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) have elected Segio Marchionne, chief executive officer of the Fia Group., for a second consecutive term as the association’s president for 2013.

ACEA’s priority over the next year will be to continue its push for an EU-wide industrial policy, whilst also trying to balance international trade agreements and encourage ‘sustainable mobility’.

Marchionne’s re-election comes at a tough time for Europe’s motor industry where, aside from the UK and Malta, the EU has suffered a general contraction in new car registrations, year-on-year, which has led some companies to take strong action, including Marchionne’s own Fiat, which recently announced a four-year plan to break even by 2015/16.
