Korean manufacturer Ssangyong has opened the new year by launching a 0% 5 year HP product for three of its models, and appointing a new managing director for its UK operations.

Nick Laird took over from Paul Williams, who resigned from Ssanyong Motor in September last year.

Laird has had a varied career since graduating from Oxford University and INSEAD, working across a number of sectors. He was acting chief operating officer at SsangYong UK from October last year.

The 0% finance programme, which is being administered by SsangYong’s finance provider GMAC, includes a 5-year limitless mileage warranty, and requires a 30% deposit.

At the cheaper end of the spectrum, the £13,495 Tivoli Petrol SE manual requires a £4,555 deposit, followed by 60 £149 monthly payments, while the more expensive Korando 2.2 Diesel SE 4X4 manual can be had for a £5,855 deposit and then 60 monthly payments of £219.

Laird said: “With this new offer, we are helping customers to better plan their finances over five years. Korean built and comprehensively equipped, with affordable prices and a 5-year limitless mileage warranty no other brand can match, we are confident that SsangYong motorists are getting one of the best value cars available in Britain.”

UPDATE: New head of Financial Services

John Chisholm has been named as Ssangyong Motor UK’s director of financial services.

The newly created position will see Chisholm responsible for managing the group’s provision of financial services across Europe, and particularly for SsangYong in the UK.

Before joining SSangyong, he was chief executive officer of financial services at Mitsubishi UK, where he initially established retail finance and contract hire operations, before subsequently going on to run them for over 20 years.

Laird said: “As we develop both our fleet and retail business, it is essential we provide customers and dealers with first class financial services, especially contract hire. This will play a big part in achieving sales success of the new Rexton, and the Musso pick-up which arrives mid-year.”
