Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS) has appointed a marketing director, a newly created role for the company’s UK arm.

Before his appointment to the role, Dan James joined VWFS in 2006 working within the marketing department and has since held a variety of roles within the wider commercial team, including marketing manager, product development and brand manager and most recently head of marketing. James will oversee the team that is responsible for marketing and customer engagement as well as product and digital channel development for VWFS.

Chief commercial officer of VWFS Simon Tattersfield,  said: “The new team has the right capacity and capability to deliver against our busy and demanding customer agenda and we have everything from consumer insight through to channel development under one roof. Dan, with his new team, has a clear mandate to deliver. It’s always a pleasure to see a colleague do well, and it’s a great testament not only to Dan, but also to a company that is prepared to invest in its people.”

Last October VWFS appointed a chief executive officer, to replace the outgoing David Maloney after a 16-year career with the captive.

Incoming chief executive officer Mike Todd returns to VWFS UK following two years as country manager for Volkswagen Bank Ireland, over which he led the launch of the nation’s first full captive leasing service.

Last week parent company Volkswagen and Ford Motor Company made formal agreements to work together in producing commercial vehicles globally. The manufacturers said the broad alliance would position the companies to boost competitiveness and better serve customers in an era of rapid change in the industry.
