of Chief Police Officers Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service
(AVCIS) has announced the recovery of fraudulently-obtained
vehicles worth over £1.5m since the establishment of the unit in
September 2007.

Half of all vehicles reported to AVCIS have been recovered, and
over 30 arrests have been made as a result of its activities.
“This is a clear warning to criminals that the Police are taking
vehicle-related fraud seriously nationwide,” AVCIS said.
The unit is funded by members of the Finance
& Leasing Association (FLA)’s motor finance division.
“These figures already show an excellent return on our members’
investment in AVCIS. The sooner a car can be recovered after a
fraudulent transaction, the better for all concerned,” commented
Stephen
Sklaroff, FLA director-general.
