Nissan is taking orders for its first
mass-produced electric vehicle the Nissan Leaf in Portugal and the
Republic of Ireland, with the UK to follow on 1 September.
The world’s first zero-emission
vehicle will be delivered to Portugal in January 2011, Ireland in
February and the UK in March.

Simon Thomas, senior vice-president of
sales and marketing, said: “Today’s announcement brings
zero-emissions motoring one step closer to reality in Europe.
“Nissan Leaf is already attracting
significant interest from prospective customers.”
The price of the Leaf, after a £5,000
government subsidy, will be £23,990 in the UK. This price includes
the battery; something Renault won’t be supplying with its electric
vehicle range which launches with the Kangoo van in mid-2011.
