The numbers of cars produced in the UK for the first ten months of 2015 hit a decade long high at the end of October, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
SMMT figures showed that 1,318,452 cars were produced by the end of October, 2.8% more than were produced over the first ten months of 2014, and the best performance for the period since 2005.

A rapid growth in the home market drove the growth, with 9.7% year-on-year growth for the first 10 months of 2015, to 309,076.
Cars built for export also grew slightly over the same period (0.9%), to 1,009,376.
The month of October itself actually saw a slight drop in car manufacturing. It fell from just over 150,000 cars being produced in October 2014 to 148,976 in the same month 2015.
Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said, "Despite a small drop in overall output last month, the industry has delivered a robust performance so far this year, particularly in terms of exports. Given the slowdown we’ve seen in several key global markets in recent months, UK automotive manufacturing still remains in a strong position."
