It said huge consumer demand for the plug-in hybrid Volkswagen Golf GTE pushed the Golf to the top of its most enquired for list for December 2017. It added that demand was so high that Volkswagen had to temporarily close its order book.

Registrations of alternative fuelled vehicles (AFVs), including hybrids, were a rare highlight in the automotive new car space last year. Whereas total new car registrations for the year fell 5.7%, AFV registrations jumped 34.8%, year-on-year.

The GTE shows that if manufacturers can transfer electric propulsion to recognisable and popular models, then consumers are willing to move away from traditional engines.”

The most commonly selected payment profile by consumers on ContractHireAndLeasing.com in December was nine months advance rentals with a 23-month term (referred to as 9+23).

The volume of 1+ leasing offers on our marketplace is steadily increasing.”
