Signs of an economic recovery in motor industry recruitment are being seen in demand for workshop staff, according to online motor industry recruiter Jobco-op Automotive.

Jobco-op says that there has been a marked rise in the number of vacancies during the last few months, as high as 10% in Q2, prompting an increase in workshop wage levels as well as leading to greater employee movement.

Derek Webb, sales director at Jobco-op Automotive, said: "We are seeing quite a lot of investment being made in workshop capabilities by companies with which we work, whether franchise, independent or fast fit. This is inevitably leading to an increase in the demand for technicians.

"We have seen a rise in demand for motor industry staff of all kinds in recent months, supporting claims that there are general signs of economic recovery, but workshops are very much leading the way."
