18 months ago Uber launched a vehicle solutions program, which offered drives manufacturer discounts. The company said 20,000 drivers had taken part in the program since then. Uber said the two schemes would complement each other.

"The program allows for unlimited mileage and the option to lease a used car, with routine maintenance also included .These features combine to create a product unlike anything on the market today," the company said.

Xchange Leasing is currently operating in major US metropolitan areas in California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego) and select cities in Georgia and Maryland. Uber aims to pilot the program in additional locations in the near future.
