The initiative will run on a first-come, first-served basis across June and July, lasting one weekend in each city.

If a customer expresses interest in a purchase following the test-drive, they will be directed to the local Volvo retailer.

Amazon is marketing the service as an evolution of its “Prime Now” fast delivery service, which covers selected household items. It already piloted similar initiatives in Italy, Germany and the US.

Jon Wakefield, managing director at Volvo Cars UK, said: “At Volvo Cars, we aim to make people’s lives easier. Our ‘Prime Now test drive’ offer does just that, allowing potential customers to try our V40 on their terms and in familiar surroundings.

“This unique initiative [is] the first of its kind in the UK and the latest in a range of offerings from Volvo designed to take the hassle out of running a car.”

The test-drive initiative is the second tie-up in a month between the Chinese-owned carmaker and the online e-commerce giant. In April, Volvo allowed Amazon couriers to drop parcels in the boot of customer cars in 37 cities across the US.
