In a report of its latest research in the retail segment, CAP
said 18 per cent of dealers expect to sell significantly fewer used
cars this year compared with last year. While a further 36 per cent
acknowledge there may be some reduction in sales, CAP reported that
this group were “not seriously concerned about their retail
prospects.
A quarter of dealers polled “believe this year’s retail used car
market will be a little different from last year”, CAP said.
Meanwhile 14 per cent of dealers in the poll describe themselves as
more confident at present than they were at this point a year
ago.
Colin Whelan, business research manager for CAP Black Book, the
used car trade values guide, said dealers have enjoyed a strong
start to the year and are determined not to allow gloomy headlines
about the economy to distract them from the business of winning
retail sales.
